Pavilion puts Institutional Investors to the test with Fiduciary Primer Quiz
Chicago, November 30, 2017 – Pavilion Advisory Group®, a full-service investment consulting and advisory firm, today released the results of its first-ever Fiduciary Primer Quiz.
A longtime advocate for the ongoing need for fiduciary education and the importance of good financial stewardships, Pavilion developed the test to gauge the knowledge of investment committee members and other professionals in fiduciary roles on ethics, standards, fees and best practices for the institutional investment industry.
“To safeguard and effectively manage the money or property of another person or group, it’s essential that fiduciaries implement proper governance and internal management structures,” explained Susan McDermott, Pavilion’s Chief Investment Officer. “With our Fiduciary Primer Quiz, we wanted to provide industry professionals with a bit of a refresher course on institutional investing.”
Posing a number of multiple choice questions in categories such as ‘Fiduciary Responsibility’, ‘Ethics and Conflicts of Interest’, ‘Governance Best Practices’ and more, the Fiduciary Primer Quiz has now been taken more than 1,000 times since its release in 2016. Proving once again that institutional investing can be a tricky topic for even the most experienced investment committee members, the average score for the online quiz now sits at 79 percent.
- Participants scored the highest on the ‘Ethics and Conflicts of Interest’ question, with an average grade of 93 percent.
- Participants scored the lowest when asked about best practices for outsourcing an investment decision, compiling an average mark of just 55 percent.
- Many respondents also struggled with a question regarding the proper process for replacing an investment manager, with less than two-thirds (64%) answering correctly.
- On average, participants took about six minutes to complete the eight-question, multiple choice Quiz.
To see how you stack up in the industry, take the Fiduciary Primer Quiz. In 2015, Pavilion also created the Fiduciary Primer guide for all investment committee members, whether new to the role or experienced, governing all types of asset pools including defined benefit plans, defined contribution plans, endowments, foundations, healthcare systems, public funds or Taft-Hartley plans.
